Pitti Uomo is the answer to the countless female-oriented events and shows. It’s a gathering of intellectual and stylish men who love fashion and want to show off their risqué wardrobe. Florence is flooded with male fashion-lovers posing in all corners and against many walls in order to show off their unique style.
Nevertheless, Pitti Uomo is not just an excuse to get your picture taken by one of the countless street photographers. It’s a biannual trade show where retailers, editors, designers and fashion enthusiasts gather together to check out the latest trends in menswear. Store owners have a chance to put their bulk orders in to all major brands. And brands get to show off their latest collection to the people that really matter: the fashion crowds.
The event can help put any new designer on the map by doing impromptu shows in the streets. Also, stylists can parade their sense of style in the streets and try to sell their fashion sense to the contacts they will make at the show. Fashion Influencers make the alleyways their runway and act like they don’t even care if they get their pictures taken by one of the countless paparazzies. Once they land just one shot that will go up in any publication or major site, they know they will get a chance to make it. That’s how important this show is for the fashion crowds. We wanted to know about his previous experience at Pitti Uomo to which he replied: “Pitti brings one of the most meaningful experiences in the men fashion industry. Here in Florence, where plastic and kitsch don`t belong, Pitti welcomes the most renown fashion designers from all over the world that gather together to take the Italian tradition further. For true gentlemen that appreciate a good taste in fashion, Pitti is the place to be!” As a hater of plastic clothing and the whole kitsch movement, I’m pretty sold on attending Pitti Uomo next time round and enjoy a couple of days of real high-end fashion. Plus, all major menswear brands like Barbour, Polo, Deus ex Machina etc. are there. Even sportswear brands like Champion and FILA attend the summit.
Why is Pitti Uomo such a big event for men, you ask? Well to that Florin replied: “For four days, the streets of Florence are full of beautifully dressed men, that come to be part of the Pitti festival. Here, in the north part of the city, Fortezza da Basso, dozens of men are gathered together to promote this culture of modern etiquette. Today, etiquette goes beyond manners, it is about refinement, sophistication, culture, and elegance.” What the modern world lacks and desperately craves is essentially refinement and sophistication. Pitti Uomo was created to promote more than fashion but the etiquette that well-dressed (and may I say well-behaved men) should follow. Chivalry is not dead in Florence in June, at least not fashion-wise.
Thinking of booking flights in order to attend the event? Well as it is a major fashion event one question should come first: What should a man who attends Pitti Uomo wear? Florin Dobre as a true fashion expert replied: “At Pitti, you will find relaxed men, that are here to enjoy this experience, to be part of it. Here in the middle of the fortress, photographers do their best to come up with the most beautiful pictures for all the creations.” So, I would say wear something you’re comfortable in but makes you feel like your most stylish self. Try out a combo that you wouldn’t normally pull off in your everyday life but always craved. Dress to impress and then sit casually on a bench and wait for some photographer to capture your awesome style.
